In ENGLISH
As Wallace Stevens wrote, “poetry is a pheasant disappearing in the brush”:
surely it is there, but it might be difficult to see.
In 1990, the pheasant showed itself – and promptly disappeared – at Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò of New York University, where Italian and American poets and critics – including Elio Pagliarani, Paolo Volponi, Marjorie Perloff, Filippo Bettini, and Charles Bernstein – met, read poems, and debated poetry-related issues. 32 years later, to celebrate the 30th (+2 Covid years) anniversary of the founding of Casa Italiana, the pheasant is reappearing, intending to rekindle an abruptly interrupted poetic discourse. Unfortunately, many of those who were present at the time are no longer with us; but, treasuring their legacy, old and new voices will continue to illustrate the ways in which poetry makes sense. You are all invited to The Reappearing Pheasant, an encounter of American and Italian poets and critics, convened by Luigi Ballerini on November 11th, 12th, and 13th, 2022, at NYU Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò and at the Italian Cultural Institute of New York.
