Overview

“What Makes It Italian?” is a music listening and discussion group that meets online on the Zoom platform and is open to everyone.
Participation is free.
The group is led by Gina Crusco, who has also guided listening at Bard LLI and Riverdale Y; acted as maestro del coro for opera in Italy; instructed music at The New School; and directed Underworld Productions.
Please email ginacrusco@gmail.com to confirm your attendance and receive an invitation link.

The first encounter will focus on Octagons:
Music of Peire Vidal (fl c1183–c1205) + Castel del Monte, Puglia, 1240
Music of Giovanni Battista Somis (1686 – 1763) + Stupinigi, Turin, 1729

Come “see” the music as reflected in Italian architecture! Music + Architecture returns this semester, with our discussions of fleeting forms in time and lasting forms in space. Structures from 1240 to 2004, from Puglia to Milan, and music from composers from all over the Italian peninsula and beyond, stimulate our minds and senses this Fall.
