Watch the video: It Can’t Happen Here? Staging Sinclair Lewis in 2020Our Walk with the Director today takes us to Piazza della Santissima Annunziata, the most quintessential Renaissance square in Florence. Alongside special guests Idanna Pucci and Terence Ward, we discover buildings and monuments and even get a sneak preview of the oratorio di s. Sebastiano as it is being restored. Inside the basilica we are able to admire a fresco of the Annunciation dating back to the mid-13th century in which the face of the Madonna was, according to popular belief (and Michelangelo’s), painted by an angel. A look at Brunelleschi’s Spedale degli innocenti (foundling hospital), two crazy fountains, an enormous equestrian statue, and a pack of angry wolves (by Chinese artist Liu Ruowang) complete the tour.
