The sixth and final Adventure in Italian Opera with Fred Plotkin of this season will feature tenor Piotr Beczala, who has sung opening nights at the Met, La Scala and many leading opera houses. He is admired for his beautiful voice, sensitive artistry and noble stage presence. He will be appearing in a new production of Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta at the Met and then sing Gustavo III in Un Ballo in Maschera there for his first New York performances of the role.

Pazzi Lazzi is a professional Commedia dell’Arte troupe, native to the Boston area. The company strives both to educate and entertain its audience. All members of the troupe play several characters, of both genders. Commedia dell’ Arte is a very demanding performance art. All actors have to be in excellent physical shape, and can easily go from walking with a hunch to doing summersaults on stage.
Pazzi Lazzi writes many of its own scenarios, inspired by real 1600s plots called “canovacci” (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Canovaccio ) and newspaper letters of the modern world. And since it is Commedia dell’Arte, “lazzi” (also known as jests or tricks) are written by the performers based on their work of improvisation.
