On the Italian Stage is a series of lectures conceived and led by Laura Caparrotti that journeys into the history of Italian Theater to explore its language, and its contribution to Italian society and world theater.
This lecture will address Goldoni and the use of dialect in Italian theater; the relationship between a theater for the people and a theater for the upper classes; the decline and return of dialect in theater with Eduardo Scarpetta and Luigi Pirandello.
