Forgotten Gems is a series that takes place at Casa Italiana as part of the literary festival Le Conversazioni that focuses on films that the speakers believe worthy of being [re]discovered. Antonio Monda and his guest each choose three films to present and discuss (accompanied by clips). This season's first guest is Pulitzer Prize, Tony Award, and Academy Award winner John Patrick Shanley, screenwriter of the 1987 romantic comedy Moonstruck.

Last season's guests were film critic Stuart Klawans (December 8), and authors Leslie Jamison (February 2), Judith Thurman (March 1), and Mary Karr (April 13).

The selected films are:
I Wake Up Screaming (1941) H. Bruce Humberstone
Monsieur Hire (1989) Patrice Leconte
The Postman Always Rings Twice (1946) Tay Garnett
Mamma Roma (1962) Pier Paolo Pasolini
Ida (2013) Pawel Pawlikowski
Love Among the Ruins (1975) George Cukor

Bonus:
History of the World: Part I (1981) Mel Brooks
