Adelaide Ristori (1822-1906) was a Diva, a revolutionary, a pioneer, a wife, a mother, and a theatrical legend. KIT’s Laura Caparrotti and Alice Lussiana Parente will introduce this amazing woman in a lecture-performance while Alessandra Vannucci from the University of Rio de Janeiro, will talk about her intense correspondence with the last Emperor of Brazil.

About Alessandra Vannucci
Italian stage director and playwright, PhD (2002), since 2014 she is a tenured professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, where she also teaches ‘Creative Processes’ in the PhD program on Performing Arts, and a visiting scholar (2023) at Columbia University. Interested in the topic of traveling artists, especially between Italy and Latin America, she has published several books such as Uma amizade revelada (Rio de Janeiro 2005); Crítica da razão teatral (São Paulo 2005); Un baritono ai tropici (Reggio Emilia 2008); A missão italiana (São Paulo 2014) and Di lei attaccatissimo D.Pedro (Perugia 2023) on the enduring epistolary and personal friendship between Adelaide Ristori and the last emperor of Brazil. More recently, she has worked in the field of photography, being awarded by Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS-Rio, 2020), especially for her research on women refugees in Brazilian photojournalism, such as Claudia Andujar (see the exhibition The Yanomami struggle, currently at The Shed).
