TERRA, Earth Meets Piano
An Evening with Elenora Pertz
Elenora Pertz, piano
Deutsches Haus at NYU presents a concert with acclaimed pianist Elenora Pertz featuring music from her next album, TERRA. For centuries, nature has been a source of inspiration for classical composers — from Vivaldi’s seasons to Beethoven’s pastoral visions and Messiaen’s birdsong. In TERRA, Italian-American pianist Elenora Pertz connects the piano with the earth element: grounding, primal and cyclical. Inspired by time spent on her mother-island of Sicily, this program invites listeners into a musical meditation on the energy of the earth. Through works by Beethoven, Stravinsky, Fazil Say, Sheila Silver and others, TERRA reimagines classical music not as distant or cerebral, but as a living, physical and elemental force that connects us to nature and to ourselves.
Italian-American pianist Elenora Pertz has been praised for her “magnificent playing, with endless subtlety.” She performs widely across Europe and beyond, with appearances at Wigmore Hall, Berlin Philharmonie, Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, Musée d’Orsay, and the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, and has been featured on France Musique and SWR. Upcoming highlights include debuts at Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Semperoper Dresden, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tanglewood Festival, and Queen Elisabeth Chapel, as well as masterclasses in Europe and the U.S. and assisting Joana Mallwitz in a premiere of “Lohengrin” at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden. Elenora has recorded for Hänssler Classics and B Records, and will release her debut solo album TERRA in 2026, exploring the piano’s connection to the earth element. As an opera pianist, she has worked with leading conductors including Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Thomas Guggeis, and Sir Donald Runnicles, and collaborates regularly with KS Brigitte Fassbaender in her Lied masterclasses. Since 2023, she has led the art song class at the Hochschule für Künste in Bremen. Elenora is also the founder and director of Lied the Way e.V., a non-profit supporting and empowering women in the art song community.
